How menopause symptoms impact women’s daily lives1

There is a wide range of symptoms associated with menopause, and many of these can have an impact on a woman’s day-to-day life.2–7
Please note: This list below is not exhaustive.
symptoms: Anxiety, brand fog, difficulty concentrating, difficulty sleeping, dry or oily skin, feeling tired, feeling a loss of self, hair loss, hot flushes, loss of interest in sex, loss of interest in most things, loss of confidence, more thrush, cystitis episodes, muscle of joint stiffness, thinning hair and tinnitus. Please note: This list is not exhaustive.

Burden of symptoms experienced by women in their day-to-day lives

The House of Commons Women and Equalities Committee Menopause conducted a workplace survey in 2021, 2,161 participants responded sharing their experience of menopause.2

Difficulty sleeping

Problems with concentration/memory

Night sweats

Hot flushes

A lower ability to concentrate

Increased level of stress

Most women experience menopause symptoms, which can affect them negatively at work. Despite this, there is still considerable stigma about menopause in the workplace.2

Race and menopause

The age that women start their menopause can differ by race and ethnicity.8

People from ethnic minority groups experience poorer general health and report poorer experiences in using health services than their white peers.15
