A preferred treatment choice2

For initiation and continuation of treatment of postmenopausal symptoms, the lowest effective dose for the shortest duration should be used.3
<ul>
<li>This medicine contains 0.5g alcohol (ethanol) in each dose of 1.25g gel3</li>
<li>Do not apply to damaged skin3</li>
<li>This product is flammable until dry3</li>
<li>Patients should be informed that children should not come in contact with the area of the body where Oestrogel was applied on due to the transfer risk. Post-marketing reports of breast development and sexual changes following unintentional secondary exposure have been reported. In most cases, the condition resolved with removal of estradiol exposure.3</li>
<li>For the treatment of postmenopausal symptoms, HRT should only be initiated for symptoms that adversely affect quality of life. In all cases, a careful appraisal of the risks and benefits should be undertaken at least annually, and HRT should only be continued as long as the benefit outweighs the risk3</li>
</ul>

Consider transdermal Oestrogel for your eligible postmenopausal patients for VMS control and Utrogestan® (micronised progesterone) 100mg to greatly reduce the oestrogen-induced risk of endometrial hyperplasia in non-hysterectomised women.3,6,10,12

Adverse events (>10%) reported over a 12-week period

The most common adverse events were headache (18.1%), breast pain (10.4%), infection (10.0%), pain (7.7%), nausea (7.2%), rash (5.4%) and vaginitis (5.4%).3Oestrogel was effective and generally well tolerated for alleviating moderate-to-severe hot flushes in postmenopausal women.3
